Junior tap focuses on teaching students the basics of tap dancing to allow progression to the next level. Aspects of tap dancing that are taught to students are balance, clear beating and timing for both fast and slow tap. In class, students will learn different routines using pop music and traditional music. This class also provides students with an introduction to choreography. Students have the opportunity to choreograph their own tap routines throughout the year. Students prepare for and complete their Glenn Wood Tap exams in addition to performing in the end of year show. Junior Tap classes are small classes which allow students more time with the teacher.
Intermediate tap extends students' knowledge of tap dancing in a variety of styles. In class, students will dance to pop music as well as traditional music. Specific aspects of tap that are taught to this age group include improvisation and choreography skills using all kinds of music in addition to extending students knowledge of tap dancing to harder tap progressions. Students prepare for exams in the Glenn Wood Tap Syllabus and perform in the end of year show. Performance skills are also enhanced throughout the year with competitions and performances.
Senior tap continues to teach students tap technique and students' knowledge of tap dancing in a variety of styles. In class, students will start to learn teaching techniques and have the opportunity to choreograph for others. Harder progressions are taught to various music styles. Students prepare for exams in the Glenn Wood Tap Syllabus and perform in the end of year show. Performance skills are also enhanced throughout the year with competitions and performances.
Adult Tap is aimed at those adults who want to give tap dancing a go or who have some experience. A variety of music is used is adult classes including rock, pop and disco! Come along for some great music, some fine dance and a social atmosphere. There is an opportunity to participate in performances - optional, of course!!
Adult tap (Experienced) is specifically designed for students who have high level tap dance skills. This class provides an opportunity for students with tap dancing experience to dance with other students at the same level. A variety of music is used in this class and students have the opportunity to contribute ideas to the class. This class, while not as structured as others, will develop students fitness levels and choreographic ideas.
